Jam of the Day – New Dress for Kanye West

Kanye West has been making some MOVES recently, dropping a new track off his forthcoming LP every Friday as part of his G.O.O.D. Fridays project (all of which can be found here). Last week brought probably the most soulful and hottest track thus far, “Devil in a New Dress,” which is available for free download once his site is back up (as of posting, both www.kanyeuniversecity.com and www.kanyewest.com are “UNDER CONSTRUCTION”).

Anyone would sound good over this beat, produced by Bink!.

Jam of The Day – Twin Shadow Slows it Down

In the waning days of summer, we’re all looking for a new band to get excited about. Am I right? Enter Twin Shadow. Twin Shadow’s debut EP was released by Grizzly Bear’s own Chris Taylor via his quickly growing Terrible Records label. “Slow” is my favorite track so far and it’s available for free download here. The video’s 70s-porn look and frequent pans down the front of Lewis’s jeans earned it a NSFW tag but I don’t agree, there’s just a hint seductive 70s sleaze. If you’re as impressed with his “big talent” as the videographer heard on “Slow” is, upcoming shows in NYC include two nights at Glasslands Gallery in September and one at Le Poisson Rouge. See you there.

Jam of the Day – Common Prayer’s “Us vs. Them”

As an accompaniment to our interview with Common Prayer from earlier today, this jam is from the band’s June release There Is A Mountain. The video was recorded at the Truck America festival earlier this year by Foglight Films.

Jam of the Day – Delorean Brings the Beats to Stuy Town

Even though it’s absurdly hot for the fourth day in a row, we recommend heading over to Stuyvesant Town tonight to check out Delorean’s infectious, swirling, shoe-gaze electro-dance jams. The Barcelona-based band will be playing in the Stuy Town Oval (between 16th and 18th Streets and Avenues A & B (Enter at Avenue A and 14th St.)) starting at 7PM, following a DJ set from DJ Brennan Green at 6PM. But if you just can’t bear the thought of being outside and sweating, you can always wait to see them until this Saturday, when Delorean will bring the beats to Bowery Ballroom’s air-conditioned fortress.

This video for “Stay Close,” from the band’s recent 2010 release Subiza, will make you wish you were at the beach even more than you already do. Shout out to my old friend Ben from Weird Days, who shot the video.

Jam of the Day – Blonde Redhead is Here Sometimes

The rock trio Blonde Redhead, has not released a new album for three years. After their last album, 23, they have been primarily making music for movies, including the score for a 2008 documentary about Dungeons and Dragons.

They are back this week with “Here Sometimes,” the opening track from their highly-anticipated upcoming album Penny Sparkle. On the track, lead singer Kazu Makino’s ethereal vocal is backed by simple dream-pop with delicate, electronic textures provided by bandmates, and twin-brothers, Amedeo and Simone Pace.
