San Francisco band Thao & The Get Down Stay Down released their new album, We The Common, this week, on Ribbon Music. The title track, “We The Common,” with it’s jangly clattering folk sound and smoky vocals, will hook you right away. Their tour to promote the new album will hit NYC in March, with shows at The Bowery Ballroom on March 22nd and at The Bell House on March 25th.
At the end of any great show, don’t you have that fantasy moment that the band you were grooving to all night will come out and play just one more song? Well last Friday, the audience at the Gibson Guitar Showroom in Washington, D.C. got just that. Following the Bear Hands set at the end of the show as the crowd was trickling out to the porch to enjoy their last drinks and cigarettes, Val Loper and Ted Feldman from Bear Hands, Slam Donahue, and Emil from Emil & Friends rocked out to Slam Donahue’s “It’s Scary.” The show was hosted by All Things Go and curated by Cantora Records.

During CMJ week there were a ton of shows to check out and one we were certainly glad not to peep was the Deli Magazine Showcase featuring Bear Hands, Brahms, Oberhofer, and Keepaway at Brooklyn Bowl. It was a killer show and a highlight of the week. Here are a few songs from that night.
Here at EV2BK we’re catching up on the video back-log in the wake of CMJ and a string of other shows. In September we checked out Common Prayer at Glasslands. After being intrigued by the video for the excellent “Us vs. Them” back in July, we were psyched to check them out live. Here are a few videos from the show, enjoy!
