Jam of the Day – The Kills Start the Future… Slowly

The Kills just finished up a two-night stint performing at Terminal 5 yesterday to promote their new album Blood Pressures which came out this Spring. This is the fourth studio album from the two-member band (Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince) released by Domino Records. Their pared down style relies on a minimalist combination of beats, guitar, and vocals with an occasional sampled effect. The result is oddly addictive.

Below check out “Future Starts Slow,” the second single from the album. And just because it’s been a while, we included a bonus Jam today – a live recording of “DNA” from Cochella this year. Hince reportedly dedicated this song to his wife, Kate Moss.

EV2BK Live Music – Bear Hands, Slam Donahue, and Emil & Friends

At the end of any great show, don’t you have that fantasy moment that the band you were grooving to all night will come out and play just one more song? Well last Friday, the audience at the Gibson Guitar Showroom in Washington, D.C. got just that. Following the Bear Hands set at the end of the show as the crowd was trickling out to the porch to enjoy their last drinks and cigarettes, Val Loper and Ted Feldman from Bear Hands, Slam Donahue, and Emil from Emil & Friends rocked out to Slam Donahue’s “It’s Scary.” The show was hosted by All Things Go and curated by Cantora Records.

Live Video – @BearHandsBand Performing NEW Song “Giants” at Cantora Records Official SXSW 2011 Showcase

In case you haven’t been able to see Bear Hands recently, they have started to play a new song live called “Giants.” This is probably my new favorite Bear Hands song, and ya’ll need to get ready for the dopeness when these guys record their next album.

This recording is from their set at the Cantora Records Official SXSW 2011 Showcase down at The Driskill Hotel in Austin, TX, where they shared the stage with Superhumanoids, Slam Donahue, Reptar, Secret Music, and Computer Magic. Take notes!

Jam of the Day – Charles Bradley Sounds So Dope He Might Be James Brown’s Lost Brother

I’ve always been a huge fan of Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, and Charles Bradley is stepping up to the plate as the next ridiculously dope band to watch from Daptone Records! Seriously, this is so amazing it basically sounds like James Brown had a long-lost brother who was about to hit his stride right now. You might want to explore a few other tracks like “This Love Ain’t Big Enough” and “How Long” before you dismiss that statement. And The Menahan Street Band is just holding it down like…. “OH, BABY!”

Jam of the Day – Young Buffalo Stomp a Catapilah

On this first single from Young Buffalo, you might think you’ve stumbled onto a lost Weezer track from the 90s, but only until the chorus hits you over the head and says “Quit it stupid, this sounds amazing, or at least like Fleet Foxes.” I can’t get this track out of my head!

The video and mp3 are below for your enjoyment. Wait for the butterfly!
