But seriously, I can’t really think of any parties that these two could have attended together. Well, maybe Diddy’s white party in the Hamptons or something.
Miley Cyrus – Party in the U.S.A. vs. Notorious B.I.G. – Party & Bullshit (remix):
In a sign of solidarity with those who, like Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez and Brown University students, have enough of a sense of history to question the celebration of a man who “was the spearhead of the biggest invasion and genocide ever seen in the history of humanity” (in the hyperbolic words of Chavez), EV2BK.com has decided not to post a Jam of the Day today. Take five minutes to think about it instead!
When we first heard about Brooklyn Skill Share, it was one of those ideas that made us say, why didn’t we think of that? Basically, it’s an organized forum for people who have skills that they want to teach and for people that have skills that they want to learn to barter their trades for a suggested donation of only $10. As a result, everyone will leave tomorrow afternoon more handy or capable than they were before. Some of the classes we’re most excited about are “Henna Body Art,” “Bicycle Mechanics 101,” “Basic Raw Food Preparation,” and “Make Your Own Butter and Ricotta.” There is no need to sign up and they are serving free breakfast and lunch with a closing party sponsored by Brooklyn Brewery, so there is no reason not to check it out tomorrow.
Gang Starr, the legendary duo of MC Guru and DJ Premiere are the types of artists that have extra to share in the skills department. Check out this track called “Skillz,” which Guru will tell you many times.
So, speaking of work, here’s one of my favorite songs “about” trabajo, from hip hop DJ/producer RJD2. Simply titled “Work,” from his 2002 album Deadringer, the song is so good, it sometimes helps you remember what you’re working for in the first place.
The Midnight Juggernauts have an otherworldly sound that is refreshing and sinister at the same time. Their catchy hooks grab you right away and don’t let go. The band, originally from Melbourne, released their debut album Dystopia in Australia in August of 2007 on their own label Siberia Records. Their new video for “This New Technology,” the title track off of their second album, features men in robes with faces that appear to be composed of multi-colored beads and streaming images coming at you while you’re flying through space. I’m not sure what the intended meaning is behind this symbolism but I can’t stop listening to the song. If this transcendental jam hooks you on the Juggernauts too, you’re in luck. They are set to play three shows in New York in October, at the Bowery Ballroom on 10/21, at the Fader CMJ show at the Ace Hotel and at Santos Party House on 10/24.
