For the last installment of our CMJ Wrap up series, we bring you this live partial version of “This New Technology” from Midnight Juggernauts‘ set at the Fader Fort CMJ Showcase at the Ace Hotel on Saturday.
Montreal four-piece Beast put on a really energetic and tight live show at The Studio at Webster Hall last Friday night. As the first band playing the AM Only Showcase that night, not many people were there for their show, but this didn’t stop them from going hard with their particular Portishead-meets-Rage-Against-the-Machine stylings. Plus, dude has a keyboard on his bass! Here’s a video of their last song of the night, “Out of Control,” from their 2008 self-titled release.
Here’s another video from the Levi’s/Fader Fort CMJ Showcase at the Ace Hotel’s Liberty Hall, with Pill rocking Junior MAFIA’s “Get Money” and then throwing some dollar bills in the air during the a cappella outro. Was that like $12?

The CMJ 2009 Music Marathon & Film Festival starts today in NYC. Since we are going to be all over the city covering the best of CMJ this week, the JOTD feature will be on a brief pause, resuming next week. In lieu of the full JOTD, here is a song from one of the bands I am most excited to see this week, who we wrote about back in early September, The xx.
