EV2BK Live Music – Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros

Last night, I was one of the lucky ones. I was able to see Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros perform to a sold out crowd at Webster Hall. Feeding off of the energy of the jumping, calamitous crowd, they played one of the most engaged, boisterous shows I have seen in a long time. While they do have a reputation as a band that is best enjoyed live, inviting a quarter of the crowd onstage with them towards the end of the set takes audience interaction to a whole new level. They sounded amazing, Webster proved to be an ideal venue for their loud, jangly, folk rock sound. Dawes started the night off right with a stellar rendition of their single “When My Time Comes” before being joined on stage by some members of the Zeros to cover Joe Cocker’s cover of the Beatles’ song “With a Little Help from My Friends,” the theme song from The Wonder Years. It was the perfect summer show.

They are playing another show at Webster Hall tonight but, unfortunately, this one is sold out too. If you don’t have tickets yet, get out there on the street and try to find them, believe me it’s worth the effort. If you can’t get in, you could always go check out Dawes who are headlining at Maxwell’s tonight in Hoboken.

Jam of the Day – Delorean Brings the Beats to Stuy Town

Even though it’s absurdly hot for the fourth day in a row, we recommend heading over to Stuyvesant Town tonight to check out Delorean’s infectious, swirling, shoe-gaze electro-dance jams. The Barcelona-based band will be playing in the Stuy Town Oval (between 16th and 18th Streets and Avenues A & B (Enter at Avenue A and 14th St.)) starting at 7PM, following a DJ set from DJ Brennan Green at 6PM. But if you just can’t bear the thought of being outside and sweating, you can always wait to see them until this Saturday, when Delorean will bring the beats to Bowery Ballroom’s air-conditioned fortress.

This video for “Stay Close,” from the band’s recent 2010 release Subiza, will make you wish you were at the beach even more than you already do. Shout out to my old friend Ben from Weird Days, who shot the video.

EV2BK Live Music – Bear Hands in Plazas and Squares

Bear Hands at American Eagle in Times Square

A couple weeks back, I went to go check out Bear Hands play a special show in Times Square for American Eagle and Spin Magazine, which was a little weird because I was trying to sort of rock out but that’s kind of a tall order when you find yourself standing in super-bright lights next to neatly folded and organized racks of t-shirts and chinos in various colors. But I guess if you were outside and happened to catch the performance on the jumbotron (above) on the face of the AE flagship, that probably would have been pretty dope.

What I can definitely tell you was hot was the Bear Hands show at The Fillmore New York at Irving Plaza the previous week. Check out a video we recorded of the band playing the catchy-as-all-hell track “Tablasaurus,” which will appear on their forthcoming debut LP out on Cantora Records sometime this fall hopefully.

EV2BK Live Music – BRAHMS at the Convent with a Neon Indian

Recently it seems that Stereogum has been sweating a lot of the bands that we already wrote about over here at EV2BK. Another reason to come here first, I suppose. But I think they made up for it yesterday, by posting this hot remix of Neon Indian‘s “Psychic Chasms” by BRAHMS:

Neon Indian – Psychic Chasms (BRAHMS remix):

With just a simple addition of the repeated call “Oh OH oh,” Cale Parks’ voice has warmed the “terminally chill” track and turned it into a catchy pop hook. I’m feeling it, BRAHMS.

As an extra bonus, here is a video of BRAHMS performing “Another Time” at Fat Baby for the Convent store opening party, which was a pretty raucous affair (I guess that happens when they’re serving free vodka all night). The sound quality is mostly pretty good, apart from not being able to hear the guitar as loudly as we would have hoped. Sorry about that, Drew (Robinson)!

More videos from the show, including a track from Beach Fossils, are up on our YouTube Channel.

Jam of the Day – Make Brahms Do Right

Start your Friday off right by checking out this video featuring a new track from Brahms called “Make Me Do Right,” from their performance on January 22, 2010 at Glasslands with Boy Crisis and Apache Beat. Brahms just posted a couple hot new tracks on their myspace page (especially check out “Subtext Is Deadly”), or you can download all 4 demo tracks from their website for the low price of your email address.

Brahms – Make Me Do Right (live):

Oh and what the hell, here’s another video of “Toward the Ghost” from the same show.

Brahms – Toward the Ghost (live):

In fact, we have a bunch more of these videos that we’ll be posting from that show over the next couple weeks, so be on the lookout for that. All the videos were shot in HD by our friend Jovan Todorovic from Belgrade. Check out his commercials for MTV Adria, they’re hilarious!

EV2BK Live Music – RWBW Perform “Tentacles” at Cake Shop

Red Wire Black Wire has been playing a bunch of shows in NYC/Brooklyn recently since taking a bit of a breather after their tour last fall, and I think that’s probably a good thing for the band, since they seem to be playing really well if their show at Glasslands a couple weeks back with Bridges & Powerlines (perfect! these guys should book shows together all the time!) and Beat Radio was any indication. The audience was jumping around and singing along, and even Doug had to admit that he thought it was one of the best shows they’d played in a while when I caught up with him at their early show last night at Cake Shop.

Here are some photos of the show last night, and also a video of the band performing “Tentacles” from the same Cake Shop show. Keep up the good work dudes.
